Kathryn White

Over the past thirteen years Kathryn White has published over 30 books, beginning with (When They Fight) a biographical picture book on family conflict, which was selected as a Notable Book for Social Studies by the US Libraries Association.

She has attended festivals at Edinburgh, Sheffield and Birmingham and often holds workshops in schools on her picture books.  She has recently developed a hunger for honest, hard-hitting novels that convey reality through fiction.

Her YA fiction only took shape after she led creative writing classes at HMP Shepton Mallet. Over the time she worked there, she witnessed talent and enthusiasm, and those attending classes improved their ability to express themselves through their reading and creative writing. She wrote her YA fiction novel, BALANCE, as a direct result of this work.

Here is a short promotional video of ‘Balance’ by Kathryn White.  Writing as Kit, you can view the video here.

She is a campaigner for libraries having worked with the local campaign group to keep their library doors open and believes that libraries and schools should have access to new writing, new fiction and new perspectives in such a rapidly changing world.

As well as her YA fiction, Kathryn White is the author of over 30 picture books.

Have a look at Nick Clegg reading Ruby’s Sleepover in a school in Oxford in June.
